Hi Greg,

Thanks for responding.... I had read that documentation. However the documentation assumes that somehow there's already existing session descriptors installed. They reference selecting a session type from the Kiosk Tab in the web GUI. My Kiosk tab only says that I need to install at least one session descriptor. Where can I find information on creating one? Thanks!!

On Linux there is no predefined Kiosk Mode session descriptor that comes with SRSS, only the uttsc session that comes with SRWC[*].

On Solaris we deliver predefined desktop-style sessions based on CDE and JDS. The closest equvalent for Linux would be a Gnome-based desktop-style session. We don't include a supported Gnome-based session for Linux in this release. The main reason is, that 'Gnome on Linux' is not a well-defined target. The different Linux distributions we support contain vendor-customized releases of different Gnome versions. A main issue for Kiosk Sessions is locking down the environment, so that unauthenticated kiosk users don't get full access to the host machine. In the Solaris JDS sessions we use lockdown interfaces that Sun has added to Gnome and which are not available in the Gnome versions used by RHEL AS 4 or SLES 9.

I am working on creating a sample Gnome Kiosk session for Linux that I can publish, maybe via the Think Thin blog. Until I have that ready, you can also try to take the contents of the SUNWkio-jds3 Solaris package and adapt it to your Linux flavor.

Documentation for session and application descriptors currently exists as manual pages. Try
  man -M /opt/SUNWkio/man kiosk

I am also planning to write an article about creating kiosk sessions, with examples.

[*] In the SRSS4.0U2 Beta, the uttsc kiosk integration is a separate package, which comes with SRSS and needs to be manually installed from the Supplemental/Kiosk_Mode_4.0 section. In the final release this will be installed as part of the SRWC install.
