Im having a very hard time trying to track down exactly what is filling
up /var
None of the ussual suspects like logs. In fact, I rebooted the server
and /var went from 33% to 100%, and when I saw user connections spike
back up to over 100 ocnnections /var jumped up to 77% already.

I believe connections are occuring because users are leaving their
smart cards in their thin client terminals after they leave.

I see over 300 directories being created in /var/tmp all of them called
orbit-utcu## or gconfd-utcu##. They look to be mostly empty directories
however.

Any idea on how I can tell if there really are a lot of open files.
Will lsof show them?

Thanks,
Taylor

There is no official way. We've thought about it but since the ALP
udp/7009 protocol is sent in clear (unless you use VPN) there's no easy
way to make this secure. But there is a nasty trick to do it, known as
"poisoning the ARP cache".

Basically, you can run the 'arp' command to set a bogus MAC address for
the Sun Ray's IP address (e.g. 010203040506). What this will do is to
cause the SR Server to send heartbeats into the bit bucket instead of to
the SR. After a minute or so, the SR will give up waiting for
heartbeats and reboot.

When it reboots, it broadcasts an "unsolicited ARP Response", which
"heals" the cache with the correct IP/MAC mapping, and you're good to
go.
