Then please install 120880-05 or later. -06 is current. That will get you the fix for CR 6306412, "KDE display is corrupt under numerous and quick graphic changes". That bug can cause the symptoms you're seeing. It also affects only little-endian machines, which would explain why it doesn't happen on your SPARC boxes. The CR has nothing to do with KDE, that's just where it was first reported. It can affect any X session.
