We looked at the T1000/T2000 initially. We eliminated the T1000
because of the lack of redundant power supplies.
We evaluated the T2000 with a 1x8core chip and 8 gig of memory.

The general feeling from users was, "It seemed slower".
They where currently running on V240's with 2 proc and 8 gig of memory.

It does appear that CDE/GNOME uses some floating point, so only
having one FPU per socket was probably the reason.

We wanted to run our performance tests on the Niagra2 chip, but never
got around to it.

I think if you go to the T2000, you will find that it will run slower
but everyone will feel the same slowness and will not suffer from
massive performance spikes when people are hammering the server as we
do in the V240 model.

One thing that also changes was moving from Sol9 to Sol10 as the
Niagra only supports 10.

I think our new model will be to run on top of quad-core x86 systems
running sol10x86 ;-)
This is what I run at home and love it. Just waiting for the SunRay
210 version t (for touch screen) "hint hint... starting the rumor
mill" :-D

Thanks,
        -Steve
