It's a problem that, for some reason, mail gets queued by filibeto.org for over an hour before getting transmitted to the list (at least that's what I interpret to be happening after reading the mail headers). The result is that by the time you read a message the can be many responses queued and waiting to go out already. IMO this significantly decreases the quality of the resulting dialog, as well as wasting people's time by leading them to respond to something that's already been addressed.

Can this be tuned? It's very frustrating. Is the machine simply overloaded, or is there some deliberate (or inadvertent) tuning involved here?

hi Bob,

no, there is no deliberate tuning involved that aims to slow the distribution of mails to the mailing list. the main problem is that the internet connectivity of the primary machine is very very bad. lots of people contacted me to tell me that the access to the web server is very slow. i am really sorry for this :( please bear with me as i plan to move the machine to a new place in the coming months.

please have in mind that filibeto.org is a free, non-commercial resource, entirely funded and supported only by me. i simply can not afford to co-locate the machines (my ultra2 died two weeks ago, so we have no backup now) at some shiny datacenter that has top quality internet connectivity.

it has been almost two years since i contacted sun, asking for some help for the mailing list (e.g. donating a pair of machines and some other hardware) and the sunray-users group in general, but no real result until now.

i believe the list has turned out to be a friendly and professional place where people can share their opinion, ask for help and give help. i am glad that engineers from sun (like you) participate and help tremendously. i appreciate everyone's time. it is true that the service is not as perfect as every one of us will want - but this is how things turn out to be in real life.

greetings,

Stoyan
