Since some of you have apparently already played around with Firefox 3: Does anyone know how to turn off the moving and fading effects?
We got Firefox 3 as a side effect of upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy). Now, I do like some of the new features, but I can't see that it is faster than FF2. Actually, feels much slower. Most of this is due to effects such as drop down menus being faded in and out, the content area being shifted down to make room for a message bar and the like. Of course, the SunRays can't display these effects smoothly, so all I get is a lot of cpu and network usage and a broken looking slide show. I assume there is no chance of an increase in performance for this kind of application with the next SRSS release? I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of unnecessary effects in normal end user applications will increase a lot in the near future, and I doubt that they will be easy to turn off... regards, Elmar
