Hi,
Yes I agree that the new Rich text Address-Field is a performance hog.
I managed to make my SPARC 1006 Mhz Sunblade 1500 run flat out at
100% CPU simply by playing around with this URL-BAR
Its really requires a 3 GHz Dual-Core with a Nvidia Geforce card to be
acceptable.
The config parameter "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults " is
defaulted to 12
so you see the 12 most recent sites in the url-bar
You can set this to "0" if you want to get rid of it completely .
type about:config in the url-bar to access the configurration.
I have not yet found a way to retain the FF2 url-bar which for a
SUN- Ray
obviously would transfer less pixels over the network.
If anyone knows how to retain the FF2 behaviour please show us !

Does anyone know how to turn off the moving and fading effects?
We got Firefox 3 as a side effect of upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
(Hardy). Now, I do like some of the new features, but I can't see that
it is faster than FF2. Actually, feels much slower. Most of this is due
to effects such as drop down menus being faded in and out, the content
area being shifted down to make room for a message bar and the like. Of
course, the SunRays can't display these effects smoothly, so all I get
is a lot of cpu and network usage and a broken looking slide show.
I assume there is no chance of an increase in performance for this kind
of application with the next SRSS release? I wouldn't be surprised if
the amount of unnecessary effects in normal end user applications will
increase a lot in the near future, and I doubt that they will be easy to
turn off...
regards,
Elmar
