SRSS 4.0 and SRSS 4.1 beta will run on current Nevada. However, SRSS is not officially supported on Nevada. This means that if SRSS doesn't work, or stops working, then Sun Support will not accept a service call on that problem. A known issue in nv_96 is that some X binaries were incorrectly built so if you want to use SRSS on 96 you'll need to fix those binaries by using 'elfedit'. This bug has been fixed in nv_97. If you're committed to 96 then I can explain how to fix the binaries, if AlanC doesn't beat me to it. At some point some of the components that SRSS depends on, like Xsun and CDE, will disappear from Nevada. At that point SRSS will stop working on Nevada. You might be able to keep SRSS working by installing the missing pieces from an older build of Nevada. It's possible that SRSS 4.1 will be able to run without those pieces, in which case I expect that someone will post instructions to this list explaining how to do that. > When I re-read this thread: > http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg10093.html > I wasn't sure if OpenSolaris still referers to Nevada or only 2008.05 ? OpenSolaris has never referred to Nevada. OpenSolaris refers to the open source collection at opensolaris.org, and to a particular binary distribution constructed from that source and from a few other components that are freely redistributable but are not yet available in source form. OpenSolaris 2008.05 is the most recent full build of that distribution. Some components that SRSS depends on are not included in OpenSolaris 2008.05, so SRSS will not run on 2008.05. You can try to fill in the gaps by applying Nevada packages to 2008.05. I don't have a recipe for doing that. > At then end of the day I want to run SRSS 4.1 on nv_{95,96}. If you want official support from Sun then it needs to be S10. OttoM. __ ottomeister Disclaimer: These are my opinions.
