Just depends when/where you run utaction. The screen saver locking is a
"global" utaction that is ran for each session.
I think BobD sent out a sample (unsupported) script that works pretty
nicely. Just remember that you can only go down or back to the starting
res. So a good trick to do would be to define the min resolution to be
that of your largest possible combination.

I'm specifically thinking of an on the fly xrandr script for correctly
switching to the correct resolution of what ever sunray you plug your card
