Ugh. I don't think you can do much about the self-centering of the login
dialog on what it perceives to be the screen extent, but I haven't
tried. That really only leaves utxinit as the place for a hacked
together and completely unsupportable solution.
One solution would be to disable that screen
altogether and go back to the xlock/xscreensaver method? is this
possible with 4.1?
See the -D option for utpolicy(1M) or the equivalent checkbox on the web
admin policy page.
