Well,
Back again. This one user had sound working for a while and has stopped again. Here is out put of the commands you gave:

sunfire3 % echo $AUDIODEV
/tmp/SUNWut/dev/utaudio/4

sunfire3 % /opt/SUNWut/bin/utaudio
/tmp/SUNWut/dev/utaudio/17

So had him setevn AUDIODEV to what utaudio listed and test. Still no sound. Then he tried setenv LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libc_ut.so

And still no sound? Again running on Solaris 10 spart update 6 Surnay 4.0 and patch 127553-05 installed. If I log into the same thin client(Sunray 2FS) sound works fine for me.

First thing, check if the AUDIODEV environment variable is being set. If it is, then maybe you need to put libc_ut.so in LD_PRELOAD.

If not, manually run the utaudio command and see what it prints out. If it returns a device name, then set that to AUDIODEV and also set LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libc_ut.so, then start up some audio program and see if it makes noise.

Chances are, his environment isn't being set correctly.

    Along a related note.

I have a user that whenever he logs in he cannot get sound to work
through the DTU speakers (Sunray 2FS). Even after running utsettings no
sound will come through the speakers for his account. Anyone else
logging into that same DTU gets sound just fine???? So seems to be just
his account having problems. He can get sound through the headphone
jack. Has anyone seen this problem? Any local files I should look for
    on his account?

Running on Solaris 10 Sparc update 6 with Sunray server 4.0 and the
    latest patch 127533-05 installed.

    Thanks...
