I found these two log files to be helpful
/var/opt/SUNWut/log/utstoraged.log /var/opt/SUNWut/log/utmountd.log John Hallman _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of The Loeki Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 7:38 AM To: SunRay-Users mailing list Subject: Re: [SunRay-Users] Bug in Kioskscripts and some questions <<SNIP>> We're having some major issues with Solaris 10u6 not correctly mounting or unmounting USB drives. <SOME> USB stick will be inserted, resulting in some sort of a 'black hole' directory. Mount, ls -l, utdiskadm, they'll all go completely frozen upon execution at or near such a mount. Is it possible to get some kind of unique identifier for the inserted sticks in order to be better able to determine which sticks cause this problem? You should notice a symlink as well as a mount directory for every USB disk. One is named generically, but the other is named for the device volume name. Can you ensure that all disks have different volume names? Nope. This is a school setup which massively inserts and removes USB sticks at leisure. Pupils buy their own, most of the volumes are simply named unnamed or noname ;-) The error is rather severe; the system will die a horrible death, either quickly or slowly. Graceful shutdown/reboot is impossible, the ILOM on the X4150 won't even poweroff anymore. Only a commandline stop -force will work, completely pulling the power. The only thing we know right now is that it's related to the USB mounts. We really need to have a way of telling which user inserted which USB stick that made it all go belly-up this bad. Greetings, Ronald
