I don't understand how it does it *with* TX; is there a good doc
somewhere?

Just the TX docs itself. SRSS doesn't "log users into zones". It allows users to log in,and they get the multi-level desktop model provided by TX. In TX you can configure what labels (zones) the user has access to, and they can assign workspaces to different labels and switch between them.

I would think that, in theory, you could define a different label for each user, and then effectively they'd get different zones when they logged in. That seems like a management headache, however.

Hi Alfred,
thanks for your email.
I still don't understand how Sun Ray server would be 'zone aware' and log
individual users in to different zones without TX. Even if I use kiosk and
cards, how will the Sun Ray server allow users to use different zones? How
would you set up kiosk for individual users that they can use zones?

Can you please give a bit more details?

Many thanks,
Dan

You can create (non-global) zones in Sol10 without using
Labeling (TX). You
won't have to worry about the label_encodings file or
any other security
measures. Each non-global zone would be an independent
entity. Same process
as Zones under TX, but using a different template i.e., not
"create -t
SUNWtsoldef". Do not need to enable the labeld
service.

With SRSS on top of a zoned, non-TX system, you would still
assume each
zone, or do a zlogin or ssh into the zone from the global
zone. Or use kiosk
mode and give each card or user their own zone for their
use. Apps could be
installed in the global zone for all users, or, if they are
friendly, into a
specific non-global zone for a specific user.

Wish that I could have that much freedom. Heavily dependent
on TX...

Hi all,

I know that SRSS doesn't run in zones and I
don't want SRSS in zones.
I just wonder if is possible to use SRSS to connect to
individual zones in
similar way as in Solaris TX, however I don't need
to use STX and all the
additional security.

Obviously I could use LDoms or xVM, but zones would be
much lighter and
better. So if there isn't anything else, I will
use STX though I would prefer
to avoid all the additional labels.

Many thanks,
Dan
