Hi Patrick,

1) The solution depends on yaf-splash to display text on the screen. I wonder if the text appears in OSD or simply anywhere on the screen set by coordinate. I will try out. But I still lack of an event trigger in my case. When a print job is sent to Solaris print queue, is there any event generate that I can use as a trigger to display the text? The solution uses utaction script which is not useful in my case.

2) I believe /etc/opt/SUNWut/gdm/SunrayPostSession/helpers/Xreset only applies to SRSS on Linux. I could not find the path for my SRSS running on Solaris SPARC. Do you know the path for SRSS running on Solaris SPARC?

Also, my SRSS is running in kiosk mode using Sun Ray for Windows connector. Does the Xreset script run when the kiosk session ends?

Thanks.

    Hi Patrick,

Thanks for you valuable input. I am really new to Sun Ray thus
    need more elaborated guidance.

    1) What are the general steps required to generate OSD message
    targeted to a particular user?

I've seen something on the Sunray wiki site. I have no idea how it exactly works but probably pretty straight forward.:

http://wiki.sun-rays.org/index.php/SRSS_Addon:_Follow_Me_Printing
/opt/SRSS-Addons/FollowMe/yaf-splash <-- Used to place printer information in OSD

    2) Where do I store Xreset script? Do you have a sample?

add 'cancel -u $USER' on the bottom of this file
/etc/opt/SUNWut/gdm/SunrayPostSession/helpers/Xreset

    Thanks.

           Hi all,

Is there a way to send printing status notification to user who
prints to a redirected printer from Windows?

You can use an application that generates an OSD message for
        that user/display

           >From my observation, a print job is removed from the Windows
printer queue as soon as it is successfully sent to Solaris
        print
queue. The print queue may not always be in the "enable"
        state due
to out of paper or offline. A user without visibility of
        what is
going on behind the scene will think the print job fails
        and keep
sending the same print job to the printer. When enough
        print jobs
get stuck in the Solaris print queue, it seems to not only
        affect
that user's print jobs but also other user's print jobs.

Is there anyway to overcome the problem?

To prevent stuck queues add 'cancel -u $USER' to your Xreset
        script.

        Patrick

           Thanks.
