My understanding is that Sean is not seeing a greeter at all, only OSD 26. If isGDMSyncedWithSRSS doesn't report any errors (I don't think it will but want to verify there's a gdm-binary managing the display) then it seems there's some problem with the X server rendering to the DTU. Sure sounds like a firewall or packet filtering problem to me if the X server is running, not seeing any errors, yet we see 26.

Those keyboard errors are typical with the XKB extension on OpenSolaris, they seem harmless so I haven't investigated - much bigger fish to fry.
