The SRSS Core Services patch for 3.1 delivers firmware images that were
built from the SRSS 4.0 patch source base. In general, the patches for old
releases deliver firmware images that are built from the patch source for
the latest release of SRSS. For instance, the current 4.0 patch delivers
firmware that was built from 4.1 patch sources and therefore has a 4.1_xxx
version.

The firmware version string always contains the patch ID of the
Solaris/SPARC patch, even when the patch itself is for Solaris/x86 or
Linux/x86. We only distribute one set of patch firmware images, and those
happen to be the images that were built on SPARC.

The version string that you can expect to see for the images in any given
patch is shown in the README for that patch.

4.0_127553-01_2007.11.09.17.41 is the firmware that was delivered by
120879-07.

The README for 120879-08 says that it delivers firmware with a version
string of 4.0_127553-04_2008.08.26.14.53. The most likely reason for a
server with 120879-08 to advertise 4.0_127553-01_2007.11.09.17.41 is
that the instructions in the README for refreshing the advertised firmware
version after the patch has been installed were not followed. After installing
the new patch on all systems in the SRSS host group you're supposed to
run:

    /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utfwadm -A -a -V

to start advertising the new firmware.
