Thanks!! I understand about zones. My only point is that that is the only form of virtualization mentioned in the requirements. It would be nice if they were updated to indicate that virtualizing Solaris is supported (even if it's not as desirable).
We're running on some pretty old hardware here so a virtualized Solaris x86 on new hardware will without a doubt perform better!! :-) -- Russ -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Craig Bender Sent: Friday, March 05, 2010 18:40 To: SunRay-Users mailing list Subject: Re: [SunRay-Users] SRSS supported when running under a virtualized Solaris? Sun Ray Server Software is supported where ever a full version of a Solaris is supported. That could be VMWare, LDOMS, etc. That doesn't mean it will be as performant as bare metal, and in some cases it makes troubleshooting a tad more difficult (wrong PV drivers for networking of the guest, etc) but yes it's supported. The global zone reference is about Solaris containers, i.e. zones and some customers would like to run instances of SRSS in zones, but SRSS need the ability to install drivers and create device nodes which are possible in a non-global zone.
