Sounds like maybe an account is trying to do some sort of automatic login and is failing? Do you see any corresponding entries in /var/log/sulog? I'm thinking along the lines of an account that tried to su to root in order to do the login but failed the su part and thus failed the login. Or maybe it's a sudo issue.
Unfortunately, even if I'm right I'm not sure how I'd fix it short of reinstalling. Sounds like something didn't quite go hunky dory during the install. Thanks. At the end of the process it has ".......org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap start". Almost like it's trying to start and never does but that could be the way the command normally looks. Not sure.
