I start from Ubuntu desktop 64bit install, can't see why that would effect
it though, but could that be at least part of my issue?

Couldn't agree more - like it or not, Ubuntu is hugely popular - userbase
wide I beleive they are No 1 by a large margin... enterprise wide, not so -
but I beleive that will trickle through as more people embrace Ubuntu they
will naturally push it into the enterprise space.
