Matthew, not that it'll help much, but there seems to be an ongoing debate regarding this problem at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/634211 We are not the only ones suffering from this change, it seems. There's also a "workaround" in comment #52, which I'm not sure will help us at all...
