My smartcard against a Linux server stopped working this afternoon. I
just get a hang with a grey screen and a static star burst,
I see

which seems to be the time the hang started,

It's not timestamped but it looks like the first batch is the typical
sequence it uses to identify the card successfully. And the second looks
like it crashed in the middle.
How do we recover from this?
All the non-smartcard sessions are fine, so I hate doing a disruptive
utrestart (assuming that would fix it).
