For those that haven't yet heard the new Chicane single there's a 2
minute snippet at the following URL:
http://www.ukmc.freeserve.co.uk/salt2.ram

It seems to sample Lucid's "I Can't Help Myself", and I thought I
heard a flavour of Energy 52's Cafe Del Mar in there as well. Hope
that the release won't get held up as a result of this, the way
"Strong In Love" got held up (ultimately had to be re-recorded) due to
similarities to Lustral's "Every Time". There are Chicane and Tomski
vs. Disco Citizens remixes doing the rounds.

Nick has also remixed Bryan Adam's new UK single, "Cloud Number 9",
which is shaping up to be a big hit. I like the new mix, but I think
most Chicane fans are unhappy with this ultra-commercial remix, coming
as it does after the B-Witched mixes.

Clannad have won numerous Grammies (including another one this year
for their latest album, "Lore"). The majority of their songs are sung
in Irish, and have a timeless/mediaeval feel, using voice, harp etc to
great effect. They fall heavily into the World Music/Folk category,
which is a pity, because it limits their audience. As a result, they
are best known for their soundtrack work, as mentioned by Anne. Their
biggest UK hits were "The Theme From Harry's Game" (as used in
Saltwater) from the TV series, which went Top 10 in 1982, and "In A
Lifetime", a duet with Bono, from around 1986. UK readers may also
remember their work from the ITV series from the 80's "Robin of
Sherwood", including the theme tune and all incidental music. (Enya
scored the BBC series "The Celts" at around the same time, and both
soundtracks won awards at the time). Clannad is a family band from
Gweedore, Co. Donegal (the name comes from the Irish word "clann",
meaning family) and Enya is indeed Maire Ni Bhraonain's younger
sister, and started out in the group before embarking on her own
successful solo career. This isn't the first time that the Theme From
Harry's Game has been used as a source of inspiration - both Kaleef's
"Sands of Time" and Elate's "Somebody Like You" from a few years back
heavily sampled the track. If anyone remembers the 49ers (Italo house
from 1990) there's a track on their album that also features a sample
of what to me sounds like it must have originally come from a Clannad
record. Currently, there are 3 other singles doing the rounds that
sample either Clannad or Enya:

Gold 'n' Delicious - "Ascension" - samples Enya's "Orinoco Flow"
Lost Witness - "Happiness Happening" - samples Clannad
Pulp Victim - "The World '99" - samples Clannad
