I'm not even going to start on this one. Well OK maybe I will :-)

Quality of voice is in my opinion very subjective, think of Bernard Sumner
(Electronic/New Order) - he has what would traditionally be called a
terrible voice (usually flat, straining for projection, often hoarse) but
he is a hugely respected singer and has been for years. I think it's much
more down to the songs they sing....

The best I can say is that I like the sound Madonna's voice makes, Cher is
so-so (when you can hear it through the vocoder) but I'm afraid Whitney
gets put in the "hideous ear splitting" category along with Celine Dion and
Mariah Carey. But that's purely my own personal opinion. 

BTW some of my other fave voices are Jan Johnston (BT's Remember) and
whoever did vocals on Air's "All I Need". Both amazing vocal songs...

Lucia is of course on another plane....
