Sorry to presume or butt in, but the "In-Reply-To field" is a header line
sent by your email message. I'm not sure how your AOL email client works but
in Outlook Express (and most email programs) you have the option of viewing
either the source of the message or the Internet Headers.

The headers of my message (this one) look like this before I send it:

---

User-Agent: Microsoft-Outlook-Express-Macintosh-Edition/5.0.3
Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 11:24:13 +0000
Subject: Re: [SM] Small list change
From: "George (gxm)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: "(SuperMacs List)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Mime-version: 1.0
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit

---

And the headers of your message (from the list) look like this:

---

Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Received: from mail.maclaunch.com ([157.238.133.140])
          by mta06-svc.ntlworld.com

If the "In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" line in my message
was kept by the list software, it would allow most email readers to group
messages into threads by discussion or responses rather than just by subject
line.

This allows you to change the subject, but stay in the same thread.

The change will be at the server end so you shouldn't have to change
anything.

Hope that helps

George.
