My experince is that the 2940UW is happy in any slot with
insignificantly better performance in upper slots. Additionally,
that the UR cards will work in the lower slots but if you have the
extensions loaded for the card (which are necessary for acceleration)
and you try to change resolution or color depth in either the Apple
Monitors or the ixMicro CP, the machine will lock up hard with the
cursor frozen. This appears to be a driver bug in the ixMicro
software. If you disable one of the extensions (forget the name) the
problem goes away, but you lose most of the Ult. Rez. performance. I
tried this with a couple of versions of the UR drivers.

I have only minimal experience with Firewire, but it looks like your
choice would be to put the two UR cards in the top slots and the FW
and 2940 in the lower slots.

A work around, if the Firewire card really needs an upper slot is to
put the URs in the lower slots and any time you want to change
resolution or color depth:

1) disable the relevant extension in EM.
2) Reboot
3) change resolution and/or color depth
4) reenable the relevant extension in EM
5) Reboot

It's a pain, but at least you don't have to open the machine and move
the card.

All that said, I seem to recall that one of the ROMs on the UR worked
as above and one was worse with freezes in the lower slots, but I
don't remember which was which. You know, I keep a notebook for
this kind of thing these days. You'd think I'd remember to actually
write stuff down in it... :-) sigh.

Finally, I also seem to remember that others had rather different
experiences with the UR, so the above may not be your situation.
