not being familiar with the Apple base station: is it advertised as an
802.11B device? 802.11B security is pretty much a botched job*. unless the
Apple base station has additional, improved security beyond the IEEE
standard then i'd be pretty wary of it.
[* in brief, seemingly none of the good cryptographers were involved in
802.11B security, they used an already obsolete encryption scheme, RC4,
which is now hopelessly compromised, and screwed up the keying mechanism
and initialization vectors. it is satisfactory for low threat environments
where probably no one is out to get you, provided you turn all the security
options on at their highest levels, but real money or real secrets are
involved, it should only be used in conjunction with a separate
VPN/Firewall product based on IPSec or SSH.]
