If you have an external device (hard drive, Zip, etc) trying booting from
that, and then insert the OS 9 disk and attempt to install to your main
drive. That way you can avoid having to boot from the OS 9 disk.

There's no guarantee of course, if the OS 9 disk stalls when booted from, it
may stall during the install phase too. As always back up your data and no
harm will come of it.

Also, seriously consider using "Clean-Install Assistant", it's free, and
while it won't help with your OS 9 CD problem, it will help tremendously
with merging old 8.6 System Folder items with the new OS 9 System Folder,
should you get the 9 CD working properly.
