A very common problem Ramon, let me explain. UMAX bundled "FWB CDROM Toolkit" along with OS 7.6 because they used different CDROM players than did Apple in their PPC's of that era. As a result when you update your System you get a version of Apple's CDROM extension that only supports the OEM Apple CDROM players that came in Apple machines. Your UMAX doesn't have the Apple ROM'd CD player so the CDROM extension from OS 9.1 can't drive your CD player. So as a result you have to do one of a few things... - reload FWB CDROM Toolkit from the original UMAX CD - download Intech CDROM SpeedTools, from here... http://www.intechusa.com/ - Get your hands on Apple CDROM extension 5.3.1 (the only version that Apple distributed that supports non-Apple ROM'd CDROM players) It's from OS 7.6.1. - hack your currently loaded Apple CDROM extension, with ResEdit, using these instructions... http://www.heise.de/ct/english/98/26/188/ - or buy a new CD unit (I'm not kidding, I did) and replace yours with a faster Apple ROM'd drive. Not necessary of course, but if you have some extra cash... what the heck... I hope this helps Ramon, all the best, -Howie -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
