Stephen, Sybil & Ramon,

Thanks for your replies about the scanner. Apparently UMAX has changed
some of their website policies. No more freebie downloads. If you want
any of their software, you now have to purchase a CD version. I know
that has not always been the case, as I have downloaded updates in the
past, for my Astra 600S scanner.

Even the three items listed on VersionTracker no longer work. (UMAX
Astra MX3 VistaScan 3.6.1 12/21/99 - UMAX VistaScan 3.5.2 08/08/01 -
UMAX MagicScan 4.5 01/15/01) You get a message that the link no longer
works.

I have a couple of versions of UMAX scanner software. I will give each
of those a try. However, I remember previous discussions on this List
about how the newer software was worse than the previous version. I
most certainly found that to be true when I upgraded to OS 9.1

I might just spring for the $40 Shareware fee for VueScan 7.5.29 which
is listed on VersionTracker. It was just updated on May 25, 2002. It
now lists support for Mac OS 8, 9 and X!

Nancy
