I recently added a Quantum 34550S SCSI drive I won on eBay - a 4.3 gig
model - to my J700, and am having a few problems with it. I think it's
related to the fact that it parks itself after I shut off the computer,
because whenever I boot up, the computer will hang until I reboot, then it
boots up again just fine.
Originally, I couldn't get it to be recognized on the first boot and had
to keep re-installing the Apple drivers upon second boot, but I found that
if I used the copy of Silverlining that came with my LaCie CD/RW, it will
boot up fine on the second boot. During the first boot, I get the message
"bus error" and the system hangs.
Does anyone know where I can find a Quantum document that will tell me
how to shut off the park function? I tried the Quantum website, but there's
no info on my drive. I believe Maxtor took over Quantum's drive division,
but I can't find any info on my drive there either.
Could it be that I need to install a jumper somewhere to shut off the
park function, or can it be done with software?
Thanks for any help you can give me on this question. Although it's not
a problem to boot twice at this point, I wouldn't mind having it booting up
on the first go.....
