Your problem sound just like mine!

Go back through the posts over the past 24 to 26 hours.  Look for the 
ones labeled "OT seriously in need of help."  Jeff Walther came up with 
the answer to my problem.

I am still not back to fully functional, but making progress. ( I may 
have a bad SCSI drive and maybe a bad SCSI cable.)
