This is an old problem many people have seen when upgrading to newer Mac OS's. There is an easy free fix. Open the cd toolkit control panel and un-check the cache box. This takes care of the problem the caching feature doesn't seem to make much if any difference. Intech's CD software is great but you likely don't need to spend any money. It does offer some extra features but most people don't need them.My J700 came with the same CD player. It won't boot anything but the Umax system disk...I now have an 8x Apple player much better.
