Hi folks,

Is the internal SCSI Yamaha 8/4/24 CDRW "bootable"?

I replaced my original Matsushita CD-ROM with an
internal SCSI Yamaha 8/4/24 CDRW some time back. I
haven't had occasion to boot from a CD until recently
when I bought a Norton's Systemworks disk from OWC for
cheap. Wanting to run long over due maintenance, I put
in the Norton's CD but couldn't boot from it. As a
test, I put my System 9 disk in and couldn't boot from
it either. (This is via the start up disk control
panel as I've never gotten this S900 to boot from a CD
using key commands). Oddly, I can see the OS 9 disk
and I can select it as my start up disk. But upon
reboot, the machine ignores it and instead goes to my
OEM Micropolis which has OS 8.1 on it. I'm using OS
9.1 for everyday use, a 30 GB IDE connected to a VST
vcard for usual start up and Toast 4.0.1 as my
extension since it came with the Yamaha.

and that leads to question two:

What do I need to do to get my S900 see my old CD-ROM
and my Yamaha?

A few weeks back someone on the list mentioned using
their old CD-ROM with their new(er) CDRW as it was
handy burning a new disk from an old one without
having to copy to the hard drive first. I thought that
was a pretty good idea and stuck my old Matsu back in.
But when the extension icons march across the screen
at start up, Toast has a red "x" through it and CDs in
neither player show up. If I shut down, pull the power
connector off the back of the Matsushita and restart,
Toast loads and the Yamaha is happy. Perhaps I need to
relocate some jumper pins on the Matsu? All I did
originally was pull the Matsu and insert the Yamaha.
When I reinstalled the Matsu, I put it in a lower bay
but changed nothing else.

Thanks,
Dave Stephens
