Hi Dave,

I built up an S900 for a friend about a year ago, and I put an internal
Yamaha 8424S in it for him. I left the original Matsushita in the top slot
and mounted the Yamaha below. IntechCDSpeedTools became the CD driver and
the SCSI address was changed to 4 for the CDRW, as the Matsushita remained 3
as it typically is. It works well, with no Toast problems.
So, if your Yamaha and Matsushita are both set to ID3, then you'll have to
change the jumper pins on the Yamaha to an unused SCSI ID.
I suspect that's your problem, conflicting SCSI ID's. You'll want to pay
attention to proper termination too. The last device, be it a hard drive or
a CDRW, on the internal SCSI chain should have it's self-terminate pin in
place. While all the devices in the SCSI chain before the last device should
not be self-terminated.
