Hi All,

I don't see anything in the archives specifically related to my
question, so forgive me if it has already been discussed to death...

I'm
trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of my S900 and wondering
if going from a G3 to a G4 will offer any significant increase in speed. My computer
is used almost exclusively for digital audio work, so every
little bit of speed helps. I guess I don't know when the system buses will
be maxed out. The two primary programs I use, LOGIC and PEAK, are both
G4 optimized, so I'd think there would be some improvement - I just don't
know if it's $200+ worth... would I be better off spending that money filling
the RAM to peak capacity?

Current system = XLR8 G3/366, 720 MB RAM, OS9.1
which is very stripped-
only necessary control panels/extensions to run LOGIC, PEAK, SOUND HACK,
PROTOOLS, DECK, METASYNTH , which isn't too many.

While I'm here, is
there a hack to make an iPOD work with a non-native Firewire port? My understanding
is that the iPOD will only interact with iTUNES on Apple G4s and the S900
will only mount it as a 5GB hard drive. Haven't tried it yet since I didn't think it
would work on my Umax
but I'd love to hear that it would...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Joe.
