Thank you to Nancy, Howie, David and Paul for prompt replies and good advice.

Sorry I am late with my reponse. I have windows( the house kind) and
the prevailing breeze for air conditioning and do not run the
computer when the ambient gets above 100F. That sort of limits my
summertime computing. I started these letters at 9PM at 95F. It is
85F at 10:25PM, getting sort of chilly ;-)

Anyway, while I was trouble shooting this curious problem by quiting
Extensions and Control Panels then testing each new configuation for
a normal restart and doing a forced restart when each change failed
to fix the problem, with no success. I finally gave up for the night
and did a forced reset and an immediate shutdown.

When I started up in the morning the problem was gone. ( And is still
gone). I should have been testing by shutting down.

A quick test of starting with my several extension sets does not
repeat the problem.
So, now I will have to retrace my steps to find the source of the
problem. I am sure everyone has been there before, it is so easy to
make changes and not document every keystroke.

I will report if I find it.

Thank you all,

Ernie
