Without the position jumpered I have been able to take every CPU card I've tested up to the CPU card's maximum. That is, I have a G3 card that flakes out above 49 MHz, another one that goes to 58 MHz and a PPC604e card that will work up to 62 MHz. Every S900/J700 board I've tested will work with those cards up to those respective maximum speeds without the J38 jumper installed. That's about ten boards at this time. If your G3 doesn't have software to disable the 512K cache, then you may wish to disable it with the jumper. Leaving the motherboard cache enabled when you have a backside cache in front of it definitely causes a performance hit. It's not as much as 10%, but it's still a hit.
