Agreed. 9.1 is going to be the ceiling for that machine(s). The cd-rom
extension I am using on 9.1 c500 is the upgrade to the original software on
my Umax system software disc "CD Rom Toolkit".  If you want to try you can
pull the original off of your disk,download 2.3 upgrade & the 2.3.2 upgrade
& then install the software & extension(you have to do each separately) in
the 2.3/2.3.2 order & shut off the apple cd extension. If you are using HFS
+ file format then you will get a corrupted cache message when you load in a
cd....just click ok & disregard. Of course you could avoid all of the BS &
get Intech's CD/DVD Speed Tools then you'll be rollin'. I think they even
give you a free 10 restart sample.
