Just for the record, the last version of SoundJam _did_ have a record
function, and AAMOF was able to record directly to mp3 format, something I
use quite frequently to archive material from cassetes. Of course, since
it's no longer available, that doesn't help Xandr much :(

Xandr, if you're going to do a bit of this, take a look at 'Amadeus II'

One interesting feature is that it allows one to edit and apply VST effects
plugins to mp3 files without having to convert to WAVE or AIFF and back
again.
