        Jacqueline:

sounds like you have the Black Screen Of Death.

Try these things to see if you can get back up:

        - press the Option key at bootup . This is supposed to reset the
computer to allow you to switch back to OS9 if you've been in OS X via
XPostFacto.

        - do a PRAM zap at bootup (press Control/Apple/P/R simultaneously)

if the two above procedures don't work, you'll need to do the
following:

        - unplug the computer from the wall.

        - press the start button on the front of your UMAX for a few
seconds - you should see it flash for a moment.

        - open up your UMAX and locate your PRAM battery - you should see
it in a small box at the front of the computer on the motherboard.
Gently take off the cover, then just as gently pry out the battery.

-press the CUDA button - it's a small button at the back of the
motherboard on the lefthand side near the PCI slots. Press it for about
thirty seconds.

        - let the computer set for half an hour, then plug it back in and
see if it will boot. If it does, put the battery back in and close up
the computer.

I hope this helps you. I had some teething problems at first when I
began running OS X on my J700, so I know the feeling you have in finding
the booting problems. But I think over time you'll find that the switch
will be quite worth it :)
