Hi All, As some of you will recall I recently posted here about a problem which I thought was a compatibility issue. The problem was the when I went to save a Photoshop file the program either closed itself down or froze up the system. Well, it turned out to be a ram issue and I swapped out an assortment of ram for two 128MB Dimms out of another Mac. That seemed to cure the matter.
I've had the opportunity to work with Photoshop a little more extensively since I first announced a cure and the problem has returned. At first Photoshop would allow me a few saves and then began to shut itself down whenever I tried to save. It has gotten progressively worse so that now where back to square 1. I am using version 1.4.2 of the Cache control software and after some searching I downloaded the latest driver and control panel (2.6.2) only to discover that I need a password to use it, and guess what? XLR8 has closed it's doors! In fact this occurred about a day after I'd bought this computer! I don't have any history or background with this card, nor do I have a manual. When it's working the speed improvement is wonderful. Incidentally since ram seemed to be the culprit I reinstalled the E100 card. There was no immediately problem I could correlate with this. I should probably remove it again anyway, but I'd like to get a serial number for updating that driver software if possible. With XLR8 going out of business - is this okay? Anybody have that? I've also noted that the card says "Mach carrier G3" but has a G4 400Mhz installed, I'm assuming was another upgrade. Here's the particulars on the machine: S 900 (originally a 200Mhz CPU) 272 MB ram E100 Ultra SCSI/ 10/100 base T combo car (a U-max proprietary card, I believe) -Located in PCI Slot 1 CPU: XLR8 G4 400Mhz Zif card ATI rage Video card (32MB) in PCI Slot 2 ATI Xclaim pro card (4MB) in PCI Slot 5 Running OS 9.1 Thanks, Richard Skipp -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
