Well, I finally got around to disabling my built-in 512K cache. I soldered
a short wire across the J38 jumper solder pads. Unfortunately I didn't do
any "before" benchmarking, so I don't have any real numbers to compare.
All I can say is that things do seem snappier. Launch times, scrolling,
window resizing all feel faster.

IAC, it definitely didn't hurt anything, and was easy enough. Of course, I
*can* solder properly, and you need good technique to do it. It's 2 very
small connections very close together. A conductive pen would definitely
be easier, but I don't have one.

Running OS 10.2 also helps! It is also defintely faster than 10.1.5 on
this machine. I have both installed and so can switch between them. I
actually need both, because 10.2's DiskCopy does not support my IDE CD/RW
for some reason, although 10.1.5's DiskCopy sees it, and Toast under either
works fine.

Dan
