At the time Jeff made the roms for people. We didn't have access to
the Rom from an 8mb card and also didn't know if the rom chips would
work with the 8mb cards. I seem to remember that we found out they
don't sorry.
I can tell you from my testing of the Twin turbo cards that
while the Apple Rom made things a bit easier the non Apple Rom did
work with OSX. The non Apple card needs to be in PCI slot 1 or 2
(numbers start at the top in the S900 or number 1 slot is closest to
the cpu slot S900/J700)
Also you don't get any early feed back even in verbose mode as the
card doesn't start outputting video until later in the booting
process. Setting output under Open firmware to the Twin turbo card
may correct this.(this is set using XPostFacto) I don't belive this
feature was available when I was testing the cards. The other problem
is you may get an off color due to sync on green being turned on and
no way to turn off in OSX. It was a slight pink color in OSX and not
nearly as noticeable as the green in OS 9.So while not ideal the card
will run in OSX but I've not yet heard reports on the Twin turbo with
