You will have better stability if you switch from OS 9.0.4 to OS 9.1. 
Once there, you can debate OS X. Networking is easier in OS X than in 
OS 9.1 at least on my Mac B&W G3. I use My Mac G3 with OS 10.2 and an 
Asante router to network to my S900 that has OS 9.1.
