actually, it's a little tricky, especially if the drive is or has been
near full or if you already have more than one partition.  it can't
split up data already on the drive into new partitions, all you can do
is shrink an existing partition to free drive space and then use that
free space for a new partition(s).  the space for a partition has to be
a continuous chunk, i.e. if you have several partitions with extra space
left you can't combing the free space from several partitions into one. 
you may also need to "optimize" or "defrag" the drive first to maximize
the size of the continuos free block.  backing up is probably still a
good idea, if you've got any valuable data/files on the drive in
question, and you should definitely run norton disk doctor or something
similar first to make sure there aren't already problems that
repartitioning might aggravate.
