Some time ago, I briefly joined this list to seek advice with regard to whether I should buy FPM or EDO memory to upgrade my SuperMac c500/140. I previously had a total of 32 megabytes, consisting of the 16 megs permanently on the motherboard, and a 16-megabyte DIMM (not known whether it is EDO or FPM) in one of the sockets.
On advice from this list, I recently bought two 64-megabyte EDO DIMMs in order to "max out" my c500's RAM. Now here's the problem. If I install both of these 64-meg DIMMs, my c500 won't boot all the way. At some point late in the boot cycle, with most of the OS loaded, the machine freezes up. I have verified that this same behavior occurs using MacOS 7.6, MacOS 8.6, and MacOS 9.0. If I install either of these DIMMs in either of the sockets, the machine boots just fine, but not if I install both. I can install either one of my 64-meg DIMMs in either slot, and install my old 16-meg DIMM in the other, and my machine boots just fine. But if I install both of my 64-meg DIMM's then it fails, as I have described above.
