I joined this late but here's my 2 cents. In my C500, I replaced the 
OEM HD with an IBM 40 GB HD from newegg.com. They have IBM Deskstar 40 
GB for $75. It varies in price 'cause last week it was $ 71. It's plug 
'n play once you get the old drive out. All the jumpers on the IBM 
drive are set at the factory so all that's needed is to remember how to 
connect  the power cord. I'm using OS 9.1 on my C500 and the IBM drive 
works great.
