Greetings!
My thanks to everyone who offered advice regarding the dead hard drive
in my C500. Here's my summary of the situation -- please correct me if
anything is incorrect before I go out and do something silly!
- The drive is no longer to be trusted.
- Any IDE/ATA drive will work in its place.
- Norton Utilities or Disk Doctor might be able to resurrect the drive
(but I don't have the software, nor does anyone I know, and even at
US$10.00 it'll be comparable in cost, once duty and shipping are
included, to buying a cheap IDE drive, with no guarantee that it will
solve the problem).
All that being said, I'm going to wait a couple of days and then look
for an inexpensive replacement drive. If anyone on the list has a
reliable used drive they'd like to part with, or knows of some
particularly good deals, then please do let me know.
Thanks again for all of your help. It looks like it's worth buying a
replacement drive, and my wife will be spared having to switch over to
Windows.
Cheers,
Brian
