That OS 9 extension should be disabled in your Classic System Folder. It was a fix for audio problems associated with ATI software running on PPC 7200 and similar machines. Not needed when using Classic under OS X. You can either disable it by dragging it out of the extensions folder, or use Extensions Manager. Also, in OS X (Classic pref pane) you can choose to have Classic startup with all extensions off. The trick is to have two OS 9 installations on different volumes. One for everything you've always used, and one minimal install for the Classic environment. The later will have nearly all extensions disabled, like all those ATI extensions, leaving only the necessary ones, like QuickTime for example.
