Well, 9 uses a bit more RAM, but you get Finder level disk burning, iTools compatibility, and iTunes. It makes you ready for OS X mucking about too, by being Classic environment capable. X is worth the bother if you have the memory and processor power, and if you are prepared to read a lot to avoid the install pitfalls. Jaguar is very nice and getting better, but on our legacy machines there may be a few sacrifices to getting it going. Like Robyn said, have at least a G3/300, and at least 256 mbs RAM perhaps too. Bigger is better with X, whether it's RAM, hard drives, or processor power. > Also on my new tower (G3/400) that is being set up as a file > server/gateway to www is server SW worth the bother? > Please give reasons pro/con and remember this is a home LAN system for > 10 macs and PCS. > PS. Isn't that what Jobs was touting as seamless Windows compatibility using Rendezvous in Jaguar? I don't pretend to understand Rendezvous, but it's worth reading up on. Again, I'm a networking midget, but I have to think OS X is making leaps and bounds over the old Classic networking headaches. He talks about Rendezvous, and demonstrates it, in his Paris Expo Keynote... http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/expo02/ You need QuickTime 6 to view it though. -Howie -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
